CF of CANZUK statement on the inauguration of President Trump

We would like to extend our congratulations to President Donald J. Trump and Vice President J. D. Vance on their inauguration today.

We hope that this will mark a new chapter in US-CANZUK relations, based on our mutual values and policy objectives. The United States is the power of the Western world, but the CANZUK realms are collectively the strongest second power. It is in the interests of all countries – the United States and Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand – that they work closely together.

In Asia-Pacific, the CANZUK realms plug into the CPTPP, ensuring the Western alliance has a voice in the world’s largest trade bloc. The realms are the strongest defensive partners to the US in the world, providing an unrivalled security apparatus which keeps all of us safe. CANZUK also ensures that Western diplomatic objectives can be achieved by reaching countries which may be unwilling to work with the US.

Let us be clear, this is not the CANZUK realms being supplicants to the United States. There must be continued respect between the United States and the CANZUK realms. We may not always have the same objectives, but we are allies with broadly similar global objectives.

We at the Conservative Friends of CANZUK will work to ensure CANZUK becomes a reality. That CANZUK will join the United States in being the second pillar of the Western alliance.

Signed

The Committee of the Conservative Friends of CANZUK
